Solihull is a city rich in culture, there are so many things to do you will be spoiled for choice. If you are coming to visit Solihull during the summer, you will be immersed in a plethora of activities suitable for the whole family. It is a memorable town in the heart of the UK with heritage sites and historical landmarks, with entertainment for all ages and tastes through its transition from traditional to contemporary.

Theatre is at The Core of Solihull  

The Core is a multi-purpose arts venue in the heart of Solihull town centre. The venue is always busy, with events almost every night, hosting a varied mix of professional and amateur events including music, drama, comedy and dance.

Over the summer months this year, The Core is home to a variety of events to suit all ages. A modern adaption of William Shakespeare’s The Twelfth Night  is taking place on the 19th July & David Walliams’s Awful Auntie is on the 3rd August, both making the most of the summer weather by hosting these events at Brueton Park (it is advised to bring blankets just in case, due to unpredictable British weather!). There are endless laughs, tears and memories to be made at The Core and a must see if you are visiting the area.

Be a Part of 2022

Marking the biggest event of the Midlands this summer, the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will be travelling across the Borough on Tuesday 26th July, marked by numerous community celebrations and events along the route.

 

Festivities at Festivals

Solihull has so much entertainment on offer. If you want to make the most of the warmer weather or the kids having time off from school, enjoy one or more of the Solihull festivals and events throughout the summer. There are options to suit all.

The Solihull Jazz Festival is from 14th to 17th July 2022. Returning year after year, as one of the biggest calendar events of the summer, ran by Solihull BID. The occasion will have the same amazing music, mixed with tasty street and artisan food and drink and quirky markets, to celebrate the beginning of the summer season.

An Elton John evening on the 21st July 2022 at Solihull’s open-air cinema staging of Rocket Man the film on their huge 42sqm screen at 7:30pm, is followed by an Elton John tribute at 9:30pm to be enjoyed with a selection of dining options of 20+ food vendors and a fully licensed bar. Gates open at 5.45pm.

Ibiza Proms in the park is on Friday 22nd July at Tudor Grange Park between 5.45pm till 10.30pm. A night of amazing rendition, demonstrating an incredible journey of Ibiza’s most iconic anthems performed by a 50 piece orchestra & vocalists.

 

Solihull Summerfest 2022 is a two-day music festival in the heart of Solihull on the 23rd and 24th July 2022, running from 12:00pm until 10:30pm on both days, with music and entertainment for locals and tourists, all the excitement of a festival atmosphere within the heart of the midlands. Day one is family orientated fun, focused on mainstream and pop music and day two is an extravaganza with throwback to 80s classics with the help of local bands.

In Shirley Park on 9th July, the annual Shirley Lions Shirley Carnival is bringing Pro Wrestling, music, dance and fun for all the family.  Also in Shirley, the first Sunday of the month is host to Shirley Social, featuring live music, local street food vendors and bars to keep your weekend entertained.

Getting Arty

Solihull showcases art of the best recognised and up and coming talent through their several high-end art galleries, platforming different styles at different establishments.

Eaton Fine Art is an independent art gallery located in Touchwood Shopping Centre, who showcase and sell original paintings and sculptures from highly established artists and new talents. They have a passion for bringing modern and contemporary art into the wider market.

Whitewall Galleries is the finest art gallery in Solihull and winner of the Fine Art Trade Guild Award in 2008. They emphasise on individuality and quality by bringing the finest artwork from around the world to an audience of art lovers.

Castle Fine Art located in Mell Square, affords a warm and welcoming environment to enjoy limited edition and original art.

The Courtyard Gallery and Art Space is an exhibition space as well as an area for creative activities situated at the centre of The Core in Solihull. During the opening hours of exhibition there are regular classes and activities taking place in the Courtyard.

Indigo Art Gallery is a family run gallery situated on the High Street in Knowle. Offering a range of Original and Limited Edition Prints and Sculpture by some of the leading artists in the UK.

 

Heritage

The Solihull Heritage Trail offers a chance to take a journey back to early 19th Century Solihull.

This runs along a fully pedestrianised circular walk and will take around one hour to one and a half hours to complete.

The trail has thirteen points of interest beginning at the heart of the town centre in The Square where the High Street meets Church Hill Road.
