Solihull town centre celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with free family entertainment and giveaways
Celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Solihull town centre where a bustling programme of free family entertainment will be served up for you.
The activities have been organised by Solihull BID – the Business Improvement District for the town centre – and will run from Thursday June 2nd to Saturday June 4th.
With live music, performers, street market, children’s trails and giveaways, there is fun to be had by all in the heart of Solihull to mark this historic occasion – even your dog!
The free activities and entertainment on offer include:
– Live music in Mell Square on Thursday (11am – 2.45pm), Friday (12pm – 3.30pm) and Saturday (11.45am – 4.45pm). There will also be a performance by the Boogaloo Babes in the Touchwood Atrium at 6.30pm on the Saturday.
– Royal Market in Mell Square on Thursday and Friday open 9am – 5pm with extra market traders on the High Street and Mill Lane on Saturday, also 9am – 5pm.
– Official launch of the VIP Platinum Card, giving you free access to special events, discounts and much more in Solihull town centre. Pick up a Platinum VIP Card from the Solihull BID Gazebo on the High Street.
– Pick up your complimentary commemorative Platinum Jubilee mug, kindly donated by Pertemps, at the Solihull BID Gazebo on Saturday. One mug per person and whilst stocks last.
– Enjoy free tea and cake with the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Ken Meeson, at the historic Manor House Tea Rooms on the High Street between 2.30pm – 3.30pm on Saturday.
– Comedy stilt walking Queen’s Guards will have you giggling whilst our Town Crier keeps the town informed of the day’s festivities on Saturday.
– Keep the kids entertained with our Golden Crown Trail. Pick up a crown and then visit the seven businesses taking part, collecting a unique jewel sticker in each one. Work out the hidden word from the stickers and then enter the competition to win a £250 voucher for The Entertainer in Touchwood.
– Once you’ve completed the trail, visit the free face painter in Mell Square to get add a glittery Platinum touch to your children’s day.
– Take a selfie on our Royal Queen’s Throne in Mell Square and then enter our VIP Competition to win a prize worth over £500.
– Dress up your pooch and enter our Best Dressed Dog competition or have your dog’s free pawtrait taken by celebrity photographer Andrew Ogilvy on the High Street, first come first served.
– Relax on our decorated seating around the town centre and enjoy an al fresco lunch from one of the many fantastic food and drink options.
